Mark Hendry (b.1997) is a Glasgow based bassplayer composer and arranger. In 2015 he was accepted to study double bass at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland’s Jazz course and has since immersed himself in the Scottish Jazz scene. Mark has performed in the London Jazz Festival, BBC Radio Scotland, STV2 and with many of the top young jazz musicians emerging in the UK: Fergus McCreadie Trio, STRATA, Matthew Carmichael Quartet, Tommy Smith Youth Jazz Orchestra. Mark’s work as a composer has become prolific in the past 2 years, writing Big Band music for the 2017 Interwoven concert at RCS, and award winning piece ‘Esperance’ for the PLUG Festival 2018. He has been commissioned from the Edinburgh Jazz & Blues Festival 2018 to compose music for a 23 piece orchestra. The Mark Hendry Octet has released their debut album ‘Esperance’. Their album features original music from Jazz, Folk, Rock and Classical worlds, exploring improvisation and arranging in a contemporary, engaging manner.
